You have been to the gym and are not seeing much results, and are thinking why am I even doing this? I can’t even remember why I started. So how did I motivate myself to workout? That is a good question.
I have been there my friends, my first time in the gym was overwhelming and tough to get a handle on. I was there to lose weight. Being in my late 20s and weighing over 200lbs on my frame was not doing me any good.
Why did I start going in the first place?
That is what I had to keep asking myself on the weeks where I saw no weight loss. It was daunting, to say the least. It is tough to keep at something with no results or so little and slow that it feels like an uphill battle.
What kept me going back was simple I needed to lose that weight. Mostly so I could breathe while putting my shoes on. haha
But we all know that is not enough progression in weight loss is a slow process for most of us.
Piqued my interest!
I had to find a way to keep me interested, some way to peak my interest. It is different for everyone. Maybe you like classes, maybe yoga, maybe working out at home, or maybe numbers. For me it was numbers… what do I mean by numbers.
Well, I found enjoyment adding weight to the bar watching my numbers go up (how much weight is on the bar). There was some sort of satisfaction being strong enough to lift more and more weight.
Find your Center!
That is how I stay motived in the gym even today I go in to
beat my last numbers. It is what I found that I enjoy. How do you find what you enjoy? Well, that is simple yet hard. I say it is simple because all you have to d it go out and try new things. It is hard because new things can be intimidating and there are so many new things where do you start.

Try them all until you find something you like. Sure why not! I tried a few different things before I found out that I enjoyed power building. I kept doing my workouts on days that I didn’t try new things then I got into a rhythm.
Ultimately if you are after a weight loss goal you just have to keep moving so find anything that will do just that and until you do just keep moving.
Don’t let others tell you what makes you happy!
It has been this way since the dawn of time. haha Well, maybe not that dramatic but
Well, maybe not that dramatic but still, there will be someone out there that will tell you that there is a better way. There is no such thing as a better way. The best way is one you enjoy and is going to keep you going.
A great example that pops into my head is CrossFit… you either love it or hate it. I don’t fall into either of these categories. Why? Just because I don’t do it does not mean it is wrong.
If you like it and it keeps you going then great do it and enjoy it. And a lot of others need to remember that.
Keep on Keepin on
As the great Joe Dirt said to keep on keepin on. There is no miracle way of finding motivation for the gym. There is no special pill (unless you count caffeine). The best motivation for the gym is to find something you enjoy doing because if you don’t enjoy it you will not keep going and consistency is key.
